
Catherine is Manager of User Experience Strategy on the CX team at Samsung Electronics America. She previously designed data software for the public sector and government agencies at Socrata (now part of Tyler Technologies). At REI, Catherine worked on the mobile POS system for physical retail employees, the e-commerce site’s online accounts, and marketing campaigns such as the award-winning Force of Nature. Prior to REI, Catherine was primarily a user researcher, working on Intuit’s 5-star iOS app Snap Payroll and at Bolt Peters, the late leading firm in remote user research. She has worked with the Harvard Business Review, Walmart Labs, The New York Times, and Obama for America.
Catherine leads teams in true partnerships with customers, leveraging evidence-based research to drive a product’s strategy and experience. Her mobile and web work spans diverse sectors including e-commerce, financial software, civic issues and politics, education, publishing, food, automobile, retail, and non-profit. Prior to her design career, she spent several years as a qualitative researcher in nonprofit fundraising at San Francisco Opera. A retired semi-professional oboist, she studied Music Performance and Culture & Social Anthropology at Stanford University.
Catherine has shared her work at a few design conferences and events, including World IA Day, UXPA, Giant UX, IA Summit, Future Stores conference, Women Talk Design, and Hexagon UX. She mentors up-and-coming UX practitioners, was on the Code2040 Fellows selection committee, and led the Hexagon UX Seattle chapter for 3 years.
