The Deliberate Practice of Boredom

Description: We spend so much of our mental energy trying to optimize our time or improve our creative productivity, but boredom is necessary, and even crucial for our creative work as designers. Boredom can and should be harnessed by our industry as a response to the over-gamification and over-stimulation that is increasingly built into our addictive digital products. In this talk, we will explore practical ways for designers to deliberately add boredom to our creative process, and consequently our design products.

What attendees can expect to learn: Ways to recognize addictive design patterns that are being built into digital products, actionable daily habits of boredom that you should add into your personal workflow, and how to measure your product design impact in ways that do not rely on addictive feature gamification
