Re-designing a Life You Love

Re-designing a life you love

How can we understand the burnout experience amongst designers? And how do we share knowledge and support throughout our community?

Job burnout is a special type of work-related stress — a state of physical or emotional exhaustion that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity. Ladies that UX Amsterdam is a community of learning, but also of friendship and support, and we want to provide the space to discuss personal challenges in a safe way.

This event won’t be a regular meetup, but rather a “meeting of minds”: A place to connect and collaborate in an environment where everyone can contribute. We don’t present a keynote to the attendees; they are expected to join in the session and overall experience.

SPEAKERS

Rayana Verissimo
Rayana believes cross-pollination makes designers better problem solvers. A UI/UX Engineer with 10 years of experience in web design and development, she is currently a senior UX Designer at GitLab. In 2018 she was diagnosed with job burnout and had to take many steps back to rediscover herself as a designer and individual.

Melissa Theunissen
Melissa is a South African living in the Netherlands, foodie, travelbug and lover of animated films. She is a UX designer who made the brave decision to leave behind her medical career in pursuit of happiness by following her creative passions. A major contributing factor to her decision to make this switch was the burnout she experienced from the pressures in her work & personal life.

Marin Jankovski
Marin is an Engineer with 10 years of experience in Development. As a Backend Engineer working for GitLab since 2012, he became an Engineering Manager in 2016 by building and leading two culturally diverse teams. This gave him a view point from which he could observe the effects of different culture backgrounds on work habits and how that contributes to burnout. Marin will share his personal experiences with burnout, experiences of colleagues he supported, and invites participants to share and compare their experiences as designers.
